What is Out of Dark?

Out of Dark is a B2B SaaS tool that helps companies map, manage, and improve their company activities. Visualizing the customer journey gives companies an overview of all activities they're conducting, helps them to identify opportunities for improvement, and offers a framework for keeping the KPIs in one place.

The motivation to start this project was based on the founder's previous venture where he served as a CEO of a software company with more than 300+ employees and missed a tool that would easily show him the details and performance of every customer-facing activity the company was doing. Instead of having something like Out of Dark that would allow him to think and work strategically, he always jumped from one urgent task to the next.

After his exit, he launched a tool with all the features he needed back then. A tool that would allow him to create a mind map of company activities and attach each one a set of details (widgets) like their KPIs, opportunities for improvement, and actions taken to capitalize on them, or responsible team members. Each activity can also include customer personas it's meant to reach. These customer personas are created separately - with just a couple of clicks, you can have a beautiful persona profile with a bio, interests, and graded personality traits.

What's our story?

We are 4 founders - Míra, Michal, Patrik & Radek. We had a clear vision of the product we wanted to build. We launched it in the spring of 2024 after a year of development. Now, unfortunately, we have to end our journey and hand over our tool to better hands.

Why don't we continue?

It’s not the product; the code is immaculate, the system is fast, and the functionalities are innovative. It is also not us, we would have loved to continue our journey Out of Dark. What we did not find was the product-market fit.

When we launched our product, the feedback was great, we had a ton of early adopters and as the reviews piled in, we thought we were on the right track: the customers loved what we were doing. The problem? They were not using the tool. Our internal analysis confirmed that the majority of our clients did now actively work with what we offered, and preferred to continue working with third-party suppliers. In short, they wanted a little more than a SaaS tool; they wanted a consultancy, and that was never our mission.

Had we known that we would not be able to break through as a stand-alone tool, we would probably have carved our path differently. There are several use cases and ongoing tenders where customer-experience agencies use our software to work directly with their clients are optimize their processes; we even have a partner agency asking us for an exclusive representation in LATAM. However, also the opportunity is there, it is not the one we had in mind when we started, and it is ready for somebody else to take it on.

What is the potential of OoD?

A big potential lies in having AI crunch the KPIs and performance metrics that companies add to their activities. Currently, Out of Dark is an "all company activities in one place" tool. In the future, it can become a "Virtual right hand" to the CEOs and help them manage the company by pointing out insights and patterns that a human might miss.

With the right leadership and approach, it's also possible to build a robust customer experience consulting service with Out of Dark in its heart.

Our main competitor, TheyDo, raised $34M few months ago. There is a huge opportunity in this underserved area!
